Shillong: Meghalaya joined the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat campaign this Sunday. Governor CH Vijayashankar and local students watched the virtual launch led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The initiative spanned 28,000 locations nationwide, drawing over one crore participants. It targets a drug-free India.
Events took place at Lok Bhavan and the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya opened the session. He stressed the importance of youth participation in combating substance abuse. Attendees included representatives from NEHU, IIM Shillong, and MLCU. Additional Chief Secretary HC Chaudhary also attended.
Participants took a formal pledge to fight addiction. At USTM, Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque and Vice Chancellor Prof. GD Sharma hosted nearly 10,000 students and staff. Ri-Bhoi Additional Deputy Commissioner Nipon Hajong called on the youth to step up. He said, "Encouraged students to become ambassadors of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by spreading awareness within their communities."
The program featured a short film and a street play from local competition winners. The performance showed the dangers of drugs. Organizers aim to mobilize families and schools to curb substance abuse. The movement seeks a healthier, stronger, and developed nation.
