Police seize Rs 7 lakh in heroin from bus in West Jaintia Hills

Shillong: Meghalaya police stopped a Network Travels bus Saturday morning on NH-6 in the Phramer area. Officers from the State Anti-Narcotics Task Force and West Jaintia Hills Police worked the operation together. They acted on a tip about drugs moving from Silchar toward Shillong. The stop happened at 8 am. The bus carried registration number ML-05-T-8381.

Authorities identified the two suspects as Robert Nongrum, 33, and Batskhemlang Jarain, 32. Both men live in the Umktait area of Shillong. Security personnel searched the pair and found two plastic soap cases hidden inside a jacket. Field tests confirmed the contents as heroin. The total weight of the seized narcotics hit 48.78 grams, worth an estimated Rs 7 lakh on the illicit market.

Investigators are now working to trace the supply chain and identify the destination of the drugs. The State ANTF stated, "The State ANTF said it would continue to intensify intelligence-based operations against organised drug trafficking networks operating within and through Meghalaya." Officials are currently pressing for public help to identify other narcotics traffickers in the region.
