Shillong: Meghalaya police arrested David Marwein on September 29 after discovering narcotics in his possession. Toll gate staff stopped Marwein at 12:50 pm as he rode a scooter with registration number ML 05 AH 7002. They grew suspicious of his cargo.
The staff alerted the Superintendent of Police. Authorities deployed a Gazetted Officer and brought in independent witnesses to oversee the scene. Officials completed legal requirements under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act before searching the vehicle.
The search turned up a soap box filled with suspected heroin. It weighed exactly 9.77 grams. Byrnihat Police Station officers registered a case against Marwein under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. He remains in custody while police conduct further investigation into the haul. Official reports stated, "The accused has been arrested and further investigation is underway."
