Shillong: Meghalaya Police busted a heroin smuggling operation on October 31. Officers seized drugs worth Rs 60 lakh in the West Garo Hills. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force worked with local police to set the trap in Tikrikilla.

Authorities arrested Shahadot Ali and Rejaul Islam. Both men are 31 years old and hail from the Goalpara district of Assam. Police conducted the search under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. They recovered 112.52 grams of suspected heroin hidden inside 10 plastic soap boxes. The gear included two cars and three mobile phones.

The Tikrikilla police station registered a formal case. Investigators now believe the suspects belong to a wider inter-state ring. Police are digging into the operation to find the rest of the gang. According to a police statement, the agency is actively working to "trace the alleged network's forward and backward linkages and identify other individuals involved."
