Villagers Apprehend Suspected Intruder in South Garo Hills

Shillong: Villagers in Gandibor Songona caught a man suspected of sneaking across the border from Bangladesh into Meghalaya. The group allegedly arrived to steal cattle and commit dacoity. Locals cornered one suspect while his accomplices fled. They dragged the man to the Gasuapara Police Station.

Residents are fed up. Theft has plagued their homes for months. Motorcycles, utensils, and livestock vanish regularly from areas including Minenggre village. This recent catch follows another capture on October 3. Villagers filed an official FIR against the unnamed suspect after the confrontation.

The community is pushing back. They submitted a formal complaint to the Border Security Force, specifically naming the 50th and 100th Battalions stationed at Gasuapara Border Outposts. They want more boots on the ground. Locals claim that despite constant warnings, authorities failed to act. One villager stated that the lack of effective measures has left them in a state of "fear and insecurity among border residents."

The local population now demands the Meghalaya government tighten security. They want protection from constant incursions. Officials have yet to release the identity of the detained man or comment on the police investigation.
