Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) condemned the killing of three Kuki-Zo village volunteers in Noney district on October 31. The organization blamed armed militants from the NSCN-IM and ZUF (Kamson group) for the attack. KIM claimed the government failed to provide adequate security to vulnerable settlements, leaving residents exposed to violence despite repeated warnings. The group also alleged that the attackers kicked and mocked the bodies, a conduct they labeled a violation of human dignity.

KIM demanded accountability for the deaths. They stated that the lives of the volunteers should not be treated as mere statistics. The organization holds authorities responsible for allowing armed groups to operate unchecked in the region.

Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) organized a massive rally at Brigadier M Thomas Ground in Kangpokpi on October 31. Thousands marched along National Highway-2 to demand the safe release of two missing youths, Paoginlal Hangshing, 20, and Tinginlun Chongloi, 21. They were reportedly abducted on October 28 from Taphou Kuki village. CoTU suspects cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF (Kamson group) are responsible.

Protesters submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah via the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Haokholet Hangshing, father of one of the missing men, questioned the safety of travelers on the highway. CoTU spokesperson Ng Lun Kipgen urged Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho to intervene. He warned the government that they could intensify protests if the missing men do not return safely. The committee extended their ongoing shutdown by 24 hours beyond the original 5 pm deadline on October 31.
