Imphal: The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) ordered a 24-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district starting at 6 p.m. this Saturday. The move follows a string of violent incidents in Chassad, Kamjong district, and Yaolen in Ukhrul district. Attacks also struck along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district. The group claims Tangkhul and Liangmei members linked to the NSCN-IM carried out these assaults.

CoTU stated: "These attacks pose a serious threat to the lives, safety and security of civilians. Given the possibility of further attacks in other vulnerable areas, the prevailing situation demands precautionary measures to safeguard innocent lives and prevent further escalation of violence." The organization says it issued the notice to protect the public from further harm.

The shutdown applies to all residents, businesses, and transport operators. Essential medical and life-saving services remain exempt from the order. The committee urged everyone to stay alert, keep the peace, and ignore any provocations that might make the situation worse. Administration officials face pressure to act fast and keep vulnerable communities safe.
