Kohima: Ten students tackled the Rights and Responsibilities of Consumers during an essay contest at Zunheboto Government College on October 12. The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection hosted the event to boost awareness regarding fair trade, safety standards, and service quality.
Organizers pushed the students to study the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, specifically the formal process for filing grievances against unfair trade practices. Isakali, a 3rd semester Economics student, took first prize. Vipeni from the 5th semester English department grabbed second place, while 3rd semester History student Siya Luitel placed third.
The department stated, "The competition was part of its consumer rights awareness activities at ZGC." Officials expect to announce the official results during the College ICE Fest 2026 on October 13.
The department is currently running a wider campaign across the district. Similar programs have already hit other schools. Students at Government Middle School Amiphoto and Kawoto completed drawing activities, while the Government Higher Secondary School Zunheboto hosted its own essay contest. The department also held a seminar workshop at Aghunato to round out its educational outreach.
