Phek Students Trained on Consumer Protection Rights

Kohima: Vogue Entertainment Nagaland joined forces with the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection to host an awareness event at Phek Government College on September 25. The session operated under the banner, Be an Aware Consumer, Be Empowered Citizen. Chetezo Akami, the Deputy Chairperson of Phek Town Council, served as the special guest for the morning.

Thukutalu Chizo, a panel lawyer with the Phek District Legal Services Authority, took the lead as the primary speaker. She broke down the Consumer Protection Act of 2019 for the students. She detailed the core rights belonging to every buyer and the specific responsibilities that come with them. Chizo explained how the Consumer Forum functions at various levels to fix grievances.

The lawyer gave clear advice on how to handle the marketplace. She told students to stay alert when they buy goods and services. She specifically advised the crowd, "Be always vigilant while purchasing goods and services, the importance of keeping receipts, proper documentation and to raise their voices against unfair or exploitative practices and to seek appropriate remedies when the consumer rights are violated."

The session pushed students to act as shields for vulnerable people. Chizo wants attendees to push for safe and informed choices. Ezhotou Keyho, the Managing Director of Vogue Entertainment Nagaland, opened the event with a keynote address. Ravolu Chuzho, Chairperson of MPF at Vogue Entertainment Nagaland, chaired the proceedings.
