Kohima: Legal experts met students and locals at Government Higher Secondary School in Pfutsero on September 25. The Uzho Cultural Society teamed up with the Nagaland Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection to host the event. They wanted to tackle the growing threat of e-commerce scams.
Advocate Kopre Lasuh took the floor to explain basic consumer rights. He warned the crowd to stay sharp when buying items online. Scammers are everywhere. He told attendees to watch for fake websites, fraudulent sellers, and knockoff goods.
Lasuh offered a clear path for victims of fraud. "Consumers facing fraud or other consumer-related grievances can seek assistance through the State Consumer Helpline at 1800-345-3701 and other appropriate consumer grievance-redressal mechanisms," he stated. He also told people to call their bank immediately if they lose money through a bad digital transaction.
Kuvethito Curhah chaired the session. Organizers finished the day with a hard push for better awareness. They want the public to take responsibility for their rights and act fast when problems arise.
