IPFT Renews Push for Tipraland Statehood in Agartala Rally

Agartala: The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura rallied in Agartala on Sunday. The party, a BJP coalition partner, marched from the North Gate area to Mara Chowmuhani. They held a public meeting to observe Sixth Schedule Day and push for Tipraland. The movement remains active.

IPFT president Prem Kumar Reang and state minister Shukla Charan Noatia led the demonstration. Supporters marched through the city streets to demand a separate state for indigenous communities. They argued this is necessary to secure their identity and constitutional rights. The party also submitted a memorandum at Lok Bhavan.

Minister Shukla Charan Noatia defended the protest as a purely democratic exercise separate from coalition politics. He told reporters, "Formation of a separate state covering the whole geographical area now under the sixth schedule protection is our ideological demand." The party seeks constitutional validation under Articles 2 and 3 of the Indian Constitution.

This event follows a tradition started by the late NC Debbarma. He set August 23 as the day to press for statehood. The IPFT vowed to continue these rallies in Agartala, district headquarters, and Delhi until their demands are met.
