Agartala: Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee leaders want the 2021 voter list scrapped. They argue it is outdated for the upcoming municipal elections. State Congress president Ashish Kumar Saha slammed the current process while speaking to reporters in Agartala on October 29. He wants the State Election Commission to stop relying on three-year-old data.
Saha claims officials are trying to skew the electoral process. He demanded they strictly follow laws regarding seat reservation rosters. He fears repeated changes to these rules aim to favor the ruling BJP. "The authorities must ensure that no eligible voter is denied the right to vote," Saha said.
The party submitted a list of sensitive and highly sensitive booths to the administration. They want central forces deployed to guard these sites. Saha says the State Election Commission has not provided clear assurances regarding these security requests. He insists a fair process is the only way to reflect the true public mandate.
Corruption and misgovernance are driving public anger in both hill areas and the plains. Congress plans to make defeating the BJP its primary goal in these polls. Internal talks regarding a potential alliance with the CPI(M) remain ongoing. Saha expects a final decision on that partnership within the next couple of days.
