Guwahati: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took the stage in New Delhi on August 23 to demand more from the nation's youth. Speaking at the National School of Drama during Kala-Tarangini: The Delhi Kala Festival 2026, he argued that preserving India's ancient heritage remains a top priority. He wants students to act with greater responsibility toward the environment and their cultural roots.
Sonowal warned that life depends on nature. He insists that compassion must extend to every living thing, from plants and animals to mountains and lakes. The minister credited the contributions of ancient sages for shaping India's knowledge systems over thousands of years. Protect the earth. It keeps us alive.
The festival brought the spotlight to Assam by featuring a performance of Srimanta Sankardeva’s Parijat Haran Ankiya Nat. This showcased the Sattriya tradition to a capital audience. Sonowal noted, "Art and culture can help strengthen the spirit of unity, devotion and national pride while connecting younger generations with India's civilisational heritage."
The minister views these artistic traditions as a bedrock for national identity. By fostering respect for life, he believes citizens can better serve the country. He pushed for a blend of devotion and humanity to guide future generations.
