Guwahati: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a statewide Demand Day this Friday. Members want a full investigation into the massive floods that swamped four Assam districts last month. They also want a permanent fix for the recurring crisis.
Party units submitted a memorandum featuring 14 distinct demands to the Chief Minister. They handed these documents to local administrative officials across the state. In Tinsukia district, activists from the Doomdooma and Kakopather regional committees marched outside the Doomdooma Revenue Circle Officer office.
The party argues the government must step up. It needs to provide better relief and rehabilitation to those hit hard by the rising waters. The CPI(M) stated, "Addressing Assam's flood crisis requires both immediate support for affected families and long-term measures to tackle the factors contributing to repeated flooding."
Workers insist on a comprehensive strategy to lower the toll of future disasters. They want state leaders to stop the cycle of destruction. The memorandum remains the party's primary vehicle for forcing government action on these urgent local needs.
