Agartala: Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman signaled a major shift on Sunday that could break his party. He warned that his next move might trigger mass exits among MLAs and MDCs. The political fallout seems inevitable.
"A strong possibility lies that my future decision will not be accepted by all in my party. Some MLAs and MDCs may quit the party as well. And, I am not sure if we don’t get what we have been demanding for our community, we may have to part away. Everything shouldn’t be looked at through a political lens. Some issues are beyond politics and that are directly linked to the survival of our community," Debbarman said during a social media livestream.
The party founder pushed the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to address community demands immediately. He cited border security concerns with Bangladesh and insisted that the Tiprasa community requires urgent land protection. Debbarman argued his request is not radical. He pointed to existing land rights granted to the Karbis, the Dimasas, and residents in Nagaland and Mizoram. He says his people just want equal treatment under the law.
