Guwahati: Unidentified attackers shot scrap trader Abu Sayed in Damra on Sunday, August 23. The incident occurred in Assam’s Goalpara district near the Meghalaya border. Sayed had just returned from a local market with an associate when he began unloading water drums outside his business. The shooters moved fast.

The associate reported hearing three to four rounds of gunfire before the suspects vanished. Sayed took serious bullet wounds and landed in Sales Hospital in Goalpara. Doctors described his condition as critical upon his arrival. Sayed lives in No. 1 Baghmara Char under the jurisdiction of the Alopati Police Station in Barpeta district.

Police have launched an active investigation into the motive. Detectives are focusing on a bitter family feud involving Sayed, his wife, and his brother-in-law. The parties had a meeting set at the Dudhnoi Police Station that same day to resolve their differences. Officers now have to decide if the family fight triggered the violence. "Police are also examining a possible connection between the shooting and a long-standing family dispute involving Sayed, his wife and his brother-in-law," officials stated. Authorities continue to gather evidence as the case moves forward.
