Guwahati: Dibrugarh Police arrested Dibya Jyoti Baruah for the July 21 shooting and assault near Ghoramara. The suspect is currently held at the Ghoramara Police Outpost after being captured with help from the Ghoramara Outpost and Lahowal Police. Trouble started at a Lahowal roadside dhaba. A dispute over vehicle parking turned violent. Baruah allegedly chased three youths on a motorcycle as they drove toward Dibrugarh.

Baruah intercepted the victims near Ghoramara. The victims tried to run. One youth took a bullet while the bike careened into a roadside drain. One survivor died from severe head injuries. Investigators suspect a brutal assault caused the fatal head trauma rather than the crash alone. The victim shot in the incident cannot walk. A second survivor remains under medical care for a brain blood clot and needs surgery.

Baruah is no stranger to the law. He faces a pending Arms Act charge and is a defendant in the high-profile Dimpi Neog murder case currently under trial. Police took him to court seeking a 14-day hold. The judge granted seven days of police custody. Officials confirmed, "The investigation into the incident is ongoing."
