Guwahati: The Directorate General of GST Intelligence Guwahati Zonal Unit launched coordinated raids on October 14 to bust a major pan masala tax evasion ring. Additional Director General Rajiv Garg led the operation across Guwahati, Delhi, Dhupguri, and Greater Noida. It started early Wednesday when officers stopped two trucks, registered NL 01AD 7495 and RJ09GD3923, near Dhupguri. The vehicles were hauling Vimal Pan Masala from Delhi to Guwahati without valid tax paperwork.

The probe expanded quickly. Investigators searched homes belonging to transporters Mohit Bakshi and Sameer Bakshi in Delhi’s Model Town. They seized documents to map out the supply chain. In Guwahati, teams intercepted five more trucks near the Railway Station and Azara area. They are now auditing these consignments to track the origin and ownership of the goods.

Officers raided properties linked to traders Kamlesh Tiwari, Anuj Tiwari, and Munna Tiwari alongside several warehouses. In Greater Noida, the focus shifted to production sites at JB Industries and BG Tobacco. Teams are scouring through stock records, invoices, and dispatch logs to find tax gaps. The total haul reached Rs 7 crore in detained goods and vehicles as of Wednesday. Officials admit this number is provisional. Investigators are still verifyng the scope of the fraud. According to the report, the "operation spans multiple locations and appears to focus on the transportation, storage and distribution of pan masala consignments." Authorities have yet to finalize the total tax liability as the investigation continues.
