Guwahati: Alert residents in Halakura stopped a commercial truck on Wednesday, October 7. The vehicle, tagged AS-17C-8131, was hauling branded goods from Tufanganj, West Bengal, toward Alamganj, Assam. Locals flagged the haul after spotting a lack of valid GST invoices and transit documents. The goods included items from Britannia, Hindustan Unilever, and Ji Nandu Ji Company. The crowd handed the driver and his cargo to the GST department that evening.

Officials moved the truck to Dhubri for a full inspection. They are currently checking the inventory against state records to calculate tax liabilities and potential fines. Preliminary reports suggest the driver only held a private license. He lacked the mandatory commercial driving authorization required to operate the vehicle. Authorities confirmed the investigation covers both the tax evasion allegations and these licensing violations.

Locals pointed fingers at an Alamganj man named Jaynal Abedin. They claim he has a history of moving cargo across state lines without proper paperwork. Regarding the ongoing probe, a department official noted, "Departmental officials are conducting a physical inspection of the consignment and verifying the inventory and accompanying documents." Officials have yet to independently verify the accusations against Abedin while the official audit of the seized goods continues.
