Kohima: Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton announced a security coordination meeting will take place this week. Officials want to curb rampant extortion, especially in Dimapur. The session will finish before November 10. Patton shared the update on October 2 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima. He spoke during the 10th Captain Late Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament. "We are going to have a security coordination meeting this week, before the 10th," he said.
The Home Department Annual Administrative Report 2025-26 highlights a difficult year for law enforcement. Police logged 1,400 total cognisable offences in 2025. That includes 1,003 cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 397 under Special and Local Laws. Murder cases hit 14. Authorities also filed 54 cases under the Arms Act.
Officers targeted local political factions aggressively. They logged 100 cases against various groups. Police arrested 160 faction cadres. Security forces pulled 50 weapons, 1,432 rounds of ammunition, and 85 magazines off the streets.
Drugs remain a major problem. Agencies registered 158 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Seizures included 576 kg of ganja, 20 kg of opium, 13 kg of heroin or shanflower, 10 kg of brown sugar or heroin, 104,470 synthetic drug units, and 3,232.5 bottles of cough syrup. Those narcotics carry a value exceeding Rs 52.21 crore. Authorities booked 18 individuals under the National Security Act and another 18 under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Patton also addressed claims involving government payroll fraud. A Special Investigation Team is probing allegations that over 1,000 employees are collecting double salaries or combining pensions with active pay. The government is still waiting for those results. "We are awaiting the report of the SIT," Patton said.
