Kohima: The Benreului Nkwa Kohima (BNK) hosted its 53rd Lamsimngyi Festival on October 31 at The Garden in Kohima. Community members gathered to honor their shared identity and traditions. The event transformed from a simple yearly program into a vital hub for connection.
NBSE chairman Rangumbuing Nsarangbe addressed the crowd. He told the youth, "hard work, dedication and discipline," remain essential for success. He credited the elders for starting the tradition. Nsarangbe noted these meetings help the younger generation build relationships and unity.
Engineer-in-Chief of the PWD, Er. Swarai Meru, urged attendees to mimic the honesty of their forefathers. He told the youth to honor their commitments. Meru also warned that their native language might vanish without active use. He told parents to teach the mother tongue at home and read the Bible in their own dialects.
The event featured traditional attire competitions, indigenous games, and wrestling for all ages. A pork leg was presented to a bride-to-be from the community. This gesture remains a mark of love and deep respect within the tribe. The day served as a reminder to protect their faith and heritage.
