Shillong: Meghalaya opened its first physical Meghalaya Collectives store in Shillong on November 4. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Timothy D Shira inaugurated the shop located below Dylan’s Cafe. The Meghalaya State Agricultural Marketing Board operates the outlet. It provides a permanent base for farmers, artisans, cooperatives, self-help groups, and rural entrepreneurs to sell their goods.

The state signed a deal with Mandya Organic Foods Private Limited during the launch. This agreement secures shelf space for local products at stores in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. These shelves will feature Meghalaya Collectives branding and stories about the producers. The initiative already sells through Amazon, online platforms, and a presence in Delhi.

Shira emphasized the goal of creating better economic opportunities for local makers. He noted the state helped trade over 2,100 metric tonnes of produce worth roughly Rs 22 crore. He said, "The initiative was aimed at connecting farmers, artisans and rural entrepreneurs with larger markets and better economic opportunities."

PRIME Rural supports these businesses with incubation services. They help with bookkeeping, product packaging, and training. Managing director Sachin Gavade said the store invites residents and visitors to explore regional craftsmanship. The shop is open daily from 10 am to 10 pm. The event also included a business networking workshop and the release of the Meghalaya Collectives Product Handbook for 2026 to 2027.
