Aizawl: Mizoram wants a new ESIC hospital and more cash for sports. State Labour Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar met Union Labour and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Tuesday. The official push came on September 9.

Hmar told Mandaviya the state struggles to meet standard population criteria for an ESIC facility. He pointed to the rising count of beneficiaries as proof the hospital is needed. "Mandaviya assured Hmar that the demand would be examined and said it could be considered at the next ESIC meeting," the state noted in a release.

The Union minister gave a nod to Mizoram’s work on labour welfare. Hmar did not stop there. He also manages the state's Sports and Youth Services portfolio.

He submitted formal requests for higher Central funding under the Khelo India programme. Better sports infrastructure is the goal. Mandaviya promised to review these proposals when handing out future Khelo India budget allocations.
