Aizawl: Mizoram is making a play for the events business. Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar pitched the state as a top-tier destination to professionals at the North East Events and Entertainment Leaders Summit in Guwahati on Saturday. He wants them to bring their festivals and conferences to the state.

Hmar argued that better rail and air connections now make the state an easy target for organizers. The push aims to grow the economy. Jobs are the goal. Local businesses stand to gain from the influx of visitors. He issued a direct plea to the industry experts in attendance.

"Come and host your events in Mizoram, amid our scenic hills and valleys, pristine rivers and clean environment. We will warmly welcome you," Hmar said.

The state highlighted its plans with a video produced by the Tourism Department and the Information and Public Relations Department. This presentation displayed the tourism calendar and government support for future venues. The summit finished on July 19 after two days of planning for the regional tourism sector.
