Mizoram Tourism Numbers Surge in First Half of Year

Aizawl: Mizoram hosted 5.37 lakh tourists between January and June. Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar shared the numbers in the state Assembly on August 27. The total count includes 5.28 lakh domestic visitors and 8,700 foreigners. No reports of trouble surfaced. Officials confirmed visitors enjoyed a safe stay across the state.

The Zoram People's Movement government secured Rs 610.78 crore in central funding to build up the sector. Builders currently work on 14 tourism infrastructure projects. Workers are setting up 199 new homestays. Hmar noted, “The government expects tourism growth to generate employment, increase demand for locally produced goods and attract private investment, thereby contributing to Mizoram’s economic development.”

Aizawl now targets status as the Winter Capital of India. Officials push this branding through a Winter Festival. The Tourism Department teams up with the Central Young Mizo Association to build public awareness. Staff also inspect hotels and homestays to ensure strict service standards.

State leaders push community-based tourism and social media marketing. The government supports local entrepreneurs through the Bana Kaih and UNNATI schemes. Officials also rely on the Mizoram Responsible Tourism Policy of 2020 and relevant registration acts to maintain order. They coordinate with the Council of Churches in Mizoram and the Mizoram Presbyterian Church to welcome guests.
