Aizawl: Environmental group Aaranyak joined forces with Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Mamit district to host a two-day residential training program. The event ran on November 3 and 4, 2026, at the KVK facility in Lengpui, Mizoram. Twelve participants attended, split into seven men and five women from the villages of Rajiv Nagar, Tuipuibari, Damparengpui, Teirei, Saithah, and Lallen. This project received funding from IUCN-KfW.
Dr. Vanlalhruaia Hnamte opened the training. Dr. M. Chinlampianga, the Project Director for the Agricultural Technology Management Agency in Mamit, discussed the work of Community Resource Persons. Experts led technical sessions on topics ranging from agroforestry and animal science to plant protection and agronomy. Vanlalruali, the course coordinator, ran ice-breaking exercises to get the group talking.
Instructors showed the farmers how to make vermicompost and Beejamrit, which is a traditional microbial seed treatment. They spent the second day looking at mulching, fertilizer use, and the specific differences between organic and natural farming. The sessions aimed to improve resource use and boost crop yields. These techniques help farmers gain skills they can take home.
The program relied on the expertise of Dr. Rebecca Lalmuanpuii, Dr. C. Rinawma, Dr. Vanlalhmuaka Ngente, Dr. Vanlalhruaia, Vanlalruali, and Dr. Om Parkash. Project oversight came from Dr. M. Firoz Ahmed, who heads Aaranyak's Tiger Research and Conservation Division. "The hands-on sessions enabled participants to understand how different farming components could be integrated to improve resource utilisation and promote environmentally sustainable agricultural practices." The team included Dr. Dipankar Lahkar and C. Vanlalrema to ensure the project goals were met.
