Kohima: KVK Dimapur opened a 200-hour skill training program on August 17. The course, titled Farm Waste to Income: Vermicomposting Production for Sustainable Livelihood of Rural Youths, takes place at the KVK Dimapur Conference Hall. Work started with a focus on teaching young people how to build businesses from organic waste.
Dr. R.L. Raut, director of the Central Institute of Horticulture in Medziphema, served as chief guest. He spoke to the class about the value of technical agricultural training. He urged the group to apply what they learn. "He encouraged the trainees to make effective use of the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme," officials stated.
The curriculum covers earthworm selection, bed preparation, and the use of organic scraps. Students will learn how to make vermiwash and monitor quality standards. Instructors plan to show how to set up units and integrate mushroom production for profit. The program treats vermicomposting as a viable enterprise, covering everything from demonstration methods to basic business strategies for local gardening.
