Kohima: Lions Club of Dimapur Elite took to the streets Saturday for its One District One Activity project. The group focused on cutting plastic waste and planting trees. Club members hit the New Market area hard. They handed out 200 saplings to locals to get trees in the ground. Volunteers also pushed a campaign to swap plastic for cloth bags, handing out branded totes to encourage greener habits.
Three gynecologists from NIKOS Hospital joined the effort. Dr. Sunil Sharma, Dr. Apeli Sukhalu, and Dr. Benjongsangba Lemtur took possession of 10 branded pots with saplings. They plan to give these to their patients. The club intends for families to nurture both life and nature. One parent received a sapling for a two month old baby, while a newly married couple got one to mark a greener future.
Club president Ritika Jain led the initiative. Club secretary Sakshi Binaykia and project chairperson Priti Jain provided the operational support. The effort aimed to spark interest in responsible waste management. The project witnessed enthusiastic public participation and spread awareness on environmental conservation, responsible waste management and sustainable living.
