Kohima: Nagaland schools spent the week hosting a flurry of events to highlight student talent and scientific discovery. Institutions across the state held competitions and seminars focused on fields ranging from biotechnology to public speaking.
Nagaland University's School of Engineering and Technology hosted International Microorganism Day on September 17. Prof. Sujata Dash opened the event while Prof. Pranav Kumar Prabhakar organized the day under the theme Tiny Organisms, Big Impact: Microbes for a Sustainable Future. Students from 12 institutions joined the fray. They entered six contests including microbial art, quiz, and reel making.
Baptist College held Literary Day 2026 at Nousi Ki. Prof. Buno Liegise told students they must build writing skills to stay competitive. She issued a warning: "She stressed knowledge competence, writing skills and a growth mindset as keys to thriving, while cautioning against over dependence on Artificial Intelligence." Jabair from the English department topped the spelling bee, beating 19 other participants.
Patkai Christian College focused on history and science. Dr. Albert M. Chawang lectured on missionary work in Northeast India, noting pioneers like Rev. Nathan Brown and Rev. Thomas Jones. Meanwhile, the science departments hosted an interdepartmental talk on AI infrastructure and relativity. Dean Thokchom Devala Devi handed out the awards.
MGM College held a slam poetry contest on September 19. Narion L. Khuvung took first place. Principal Reji Abraham attended as the guest of honour to talk about critical thinking. Finally, C Edge College crowned Hoto I Swu the champion of its 8th Public Speaking Championship on September 15. The event featured five finalists who had survived two weeks of intensive training.
