Kohima: Students and community leaders in Wokha marked the second day of an indefinite protest on November 3. They are demanding immediate action at Government Higher Secondary School, Sungro. The movement kicked off on November 2 after years of reported neglect and severe staffing shortages.
The coalition includes student bodies and village councils from Pangti, Okotso, Sungro, Old and New Aree, Yanthamo, and Asha. These groups claim a lack of educators in core subjects has gutted academic progress. Some students have even faced exams without ever finishing their syllabus.
Protesters filled the streets with signs calling for intervention. They carried placards reading, "Save My School, Save My Career." Other messages demanded justice for the local student body.
The organizations refuse to back down. They intend to keep the pressure on until the state department issues a formal written guarantee to fill all teaching and non-teaching positions. Until that happens, the school gate remains a site of organized defiance.
