Don Bosco College Students Train for Disaster Response

Kohima: Don Bosco College Kohima teamed up with the 12th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force on September 17. They ran a disaster preparedness event at the college. A total of 136 NSS volunteers attended the training.

Commander Vikhodi Rhetso led the demonstration. He warned that Nagaland sits in seismic zone 5. High magnitude earthquakes remain a constant threat. He told the crowd: "Conduct, Search, Rescue and Assist." These four words drive the mission of the NDRF.

The team taught students how to survive a quake. They practiced hiding under furniture and protecting their heads. The demonstration covered life-saving medical tactics. Volunteers learned CPR and how to clear airways. They watched the NDRF team manage bleeding with pressure points and bandages.

Specialized gear was put to use. The group practiced building improvised stretchers for the injured. They learned piggyback carries and multi-person transport methods for victims. Nutsulo Swuro chaired the session. Sharon Khing closed the day with a vote of thanks.
