Kohima: The five-day North East National Service Scheme Festival ended July 31 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma. More than 360 volunteers from across eight states attended the event. The festival ran from July 27 to July 31 under the theme Viksit Bharat.
Roko Angami, OSD for the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, addressed the closing ceremony. He urged the youth to take ownership of the nation. He told the volunteers, "North East Region is a crown Jewel of India, rich not only in bio-diversity and cultural but in immense human potential."
The event aimed to foster unity and leadership. Volunteers competed in several categories to showcase their skills. Mizoram took first place in folk dance, followed by Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Assam claimed the top spot for PowerPoint presentations, with Tripura and Sikkim placing second and third.
Assam also won the extempore speech contest, while Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland rounded out the top three. In the folk song category, Nagaland grabbed first place. Meghalaya and Manipur tied for second, and Assam took third.
State NSS Cell Nagaland and Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, organized the festival. They worked alongside the Regional Directorate of NSS in Guwahati and the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Langphoang chaired the valedictory program, and Nüveta Khüsoh provided the vote of thanks.
