Guwahati: A premature baby turned up on the side of a road in New Uchamati on Monday. Residents found the infant near the Doomdooma area of Assam’s Tinsukia district. The child likely spent the night exposed to the elements after someone left it there late Sunday. Local witnesses spotted the baby and dialed the Doomdooma Police.
Officers secured the scene and took the child into custody for legal processing. Manujjal Gogoi, the Officer-in-Charge of Doomdooma Police Station, confirmed the recovery by stating, "A premature baby has been found." Investigators are currently scraping together evidence to figure out how the infant arrived at that spot.
Locals are rattled. They worry the baby was abandoned immediately after birth. Police have yet to confirm a motive or identify who left the child behind. Questions regarding the timeline and the identity of those responsible remain unanswered. Residents are now demanding increased night patrols and undercover surveillance in vulnerable locations to curb suspicious activity.
