Police Arrest Third Suspect in Tinsukia Death Case

Guwahati: Tinsukia Police caught associate professor Nilim Jyoti Senapati on Monday night in Dhemaji. Senapati spent over 100 hours on the run. He is the third person arrested for the death of 26-year-old Chinmoy Jyoti Changmai. Changmai died after he was found broken and bleeding outside the JSB Spring Field residential complex on August 27. He passed away at the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh after doctors at Tinsukia Civil Hospital failed to save him.

Authorities previously took law student Ananya Senapati and her mother, former teacher Juhi Senapati, into custody. A judge ordered both women into judicial jail time. Riturani Changmai, the victim's mother, filed an FIR claiming her son went to the building after Ananya Senapati called him. The complaint alleges a fight broke out inside before someone shoved Changmai from an upper floor. Police have not yet verified these specific claims.

Officers booked the case at Tinsukia Sadar Police Station under sections 61(1)(a), 103(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Detectives plan to grill Senapati to build a timeline of the events. They are currently gathering evidence and talking to witnesses to see exactly what happened inside the apartment block that day. Riturani Changmai remains focused on the legal battle. "I want justice for my son," she said.
