Guwahati: Tinsukia police are closing in on a human trafficking network. Authorities arrested seven suspects and rescued four minor girls who were lured into the scheme with empty promises of education and jobs. The investigation gained traction after officers picked up Puja Das, a resident of Tinsukia identified as a primary figure in the operation. Police pulled the others in after interrogation sessions and evidence collection.
The net widened on Saturday when investigators arrested Tushar Goyal, a local man accused of being a customer. A court granted police a three-day remand to grill him on his role and potential connections to other suspects. Investigators are now scrutinizing local hotels and establishments to see if they provided cover for the illicit activities. The current probe aims to map out the recruitment and movement of victims.
Authorities registered the case as Tinsukia Police Station Case No. 1060/26. The charges are heavy. Police filed the case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1986, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Officials stated that "the allegations against the arrested persons remain subject to investigation and due legal process."
Detectives are currently reviewing how the network operated and whether early warning signs were ignored. More arrests remain a distinct possibility as the department digs for more links. For now, the identity of the four rescued minors remains confidential under the law as police continue their work.
