Guwahati: An angry mob torched a house in Barmura Miripather village Saturday night. The home belonged to a man accused of attempted rape. Tensions boiled over in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district following the alleged attack on an elderly woman. The victim says the man broke into her house around midnight. She fought him off, and the suspect fled into the night.

Locals called the Dhola Police to report the assault. The community grew impatient as the suspect remained at large. Frustrated by the delay, a group of residents marched to the man’s home and set it on fire. Local residents are now demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and strict administrative action.

The allegations against the suspect are not yet proven in court. Police are now investigating the assault and the arson. An official stated, "Police are expected to investigate both the alleged assault and the circumstances surrounding the burning of the accused’s house."
