Guwahati: Security forces captured an alleged NSCN-KYA over-ground worker on October 5 in the Tipong area of Tinsukia. The joint operation involved the 20 Assam Rifles, the 166 Territorial Army, and Assam Police. Authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Tipong resident Karim Khan. Intelligence reports triggered the raid.

Khan admitted to collecting cash from at least 10 local residents. He funneled these funds to SS Captain Rocky Thapa. "Khan was allegedly working as an OGW for the NSCN-KYA and was involved in collecting money from local residents on behalf of SS Captain Rocky Thapa, a member of the outfit, security officials said."

The suspect maintained ties with active cadres of the NSCN-Nikki Sumi faction. Agents seized two mobile phones, one SIM card, and a Maruti Suzuki Swift VXI with registration number NL 02 C 2516. Officials moved Khan to the Lekhapani Police Station to face further questioning and legal proceedings. Detectives are now mapping the full scale of his extortion network.
