Guwahati: Tinsukia police arrested a mother and daughter following the death of 26-year-old Chinmoy Jyoti Changmai. Changmai died after a fall at the JSB Spring Field residential complex on August 27. He was found injured near midnight.
First responders rushed the Bordoloi Nagar resident to Tinsukia Civil Hospital before moving him to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. He died there during treatment. Riturani Changmai, the mother of the victim, filed an FIR claiming her son went to the building after a call from Ananya Senapati. She is a law student.
The complaint alleges a fight broke out inside the building. Changmai was pushed from an upper floor. Police arrested Ananya Senapati and her mother, Juhi Senapati, who works as a teacher at a private school. Authorities are now hunting for a third suspect. Nilim Jyoti Senapati, an associate professor at Tinsukia College, remains on the run. Police launched a search to trace him.
Officers registered case number 0198/26 at Tinsukia Sadar Police Station. The charges include Sections 61(1)(a), 103(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The court remanded the two women into judicial custody. Police stated, "The allegations are yet to be established and that all circumstances surrounding Changmai’s injuries and death remain under investigation." Detectives are currently questioning witnesses and gathering evidence to piece together the events of that night.
