Guwahati: Gagandeep Singh Dhillon sits in police custody today. His wife, 27-year-old GNM nurse Shyamolima Bora, died Wednesday night. She suffered severe burns inside their bungalow at the Doimukhia Roseberry Tea Estate in Tinsukia. Guards heard her crying. Then they heard Dhillon shouting.
Night guards Pradip Bhumij and Deepak Kondo entered the bungalow after the noises stopped. They found Bora lying on the floor near a bed. She was severely burnt. The guards alerted estate authorities immediately. Police arrived shortly after to secure the scene.
Bora’s father, Premkanta Bora, refuses to believe she took her own life. He filed an official complaint at the Baghjan Police Station. "My daughter can never commit suicide. I suspect a totally pre-planned murder," he said. He claims she had scratch marks on her neck and nose. He also alleges blood was leaking from her ears and that a petrol-like substance emerged from her body during cremation.
The couple returned to the bungalow around 10 pm on Wednesday after going out for food. Bora had worked a shift at a private nursing home in Doomdooma earlier that day. They married in court one-and-a-half years ago and lived on the tea estate for about a year. The guards noted the couple fought occasionally but always reconciled.
Dhillon is a native of Khuti Kota in Nagaon district. His parents live in Nagaon and were not home during the incident. Co-district Superintendent of Police Diganta Dutta confirmed the arrest. Police registered Case No. 18/26 under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Detectives are still piecing together the final hours inside the bungalow. They have not yet declared an official cause of death.
