Police Probe Death of Woman Found Bound in Cachar

Guwahati: Police in Assam’s Cachar district found the body of a 30-year-old woman near the Panisagar drain in West Saptagram village on the night of Wednesday, November 4. The victim, identified as Rostana Begum Barbhuiya, had her legs tied when locals discovered her remains. She leaves behind a 10-year-old son.

Barbhuiya moved back to her parental home eight years ago following a divorce. She worked as a domestic help and a brick kiln laborer to feed her family. On Wednesday evening, she returned from work to find her two-year-old son missing. She headed toward a nearby night football tournament to search for the boy. Her son made it home by 8 p.m., but Barbhuiya never returned.

Family members and villagers tracked her path by following torn pieces of her clothing. They eventually found her body at the drain site. Officer-in-charge Sarbeswar Kuwar of the Dholai police station arrived with his team to secure the area. The discovery has gripped the village with fear. Local residents are demanding answers. "The incident has caused concern among residents of the village, with some suspecting that she may have been murdered," reports noted.

Investigators have yet to confirm the cause of death. Officers are currently questioning locals and gathering evidence. They continue to treat the case as an active investigation.
