Itanagar: Farmers in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, just shipped 3,000 bunches of chrysanthemums to Delhi. The Delhi-based buyer, Zubi Flora, picked up the load after a kickoff event at the Mini Secretariat. Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa oversaw the departure alongside horticulture officials and local growers.
District Horticulture Officer Hibu Dante supervised the flower growth with aid from the Centre-sponsored Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture. The state department teamed up with the CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, to sharpen cultivation skills. Horticulture Secretary Koj Riniya noted that the state is teaching farmers scientific practices to meet market demands.
Koj Riniya stated, "The department was working to improve the quality of locally produced flowers through training in scientific Package of Practices and Good Agricultural Practices, enabling growers to meet market requirements." The government eyes Azadpur Mandi as a prime hub for these shipments. Officials expect better earnings for local producers through these new links.
Farmers in Ziro are already prepping crops of gypsophila for a harvest in the coming weeks. Appa pushed the growers to keep using these scientific methods to boost their output. The 2026-27 state budget includes specific money to build up the horticulture sector. This initiative aims to make farming a reliable way to make a living.
