Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu pledged full backing for the 35th Senior National Wushu Championship. The state hosts the event in Itanagar from December 9 to 15, 2026. A delegation from the All Arunachal Pradesh Wushu Association met the Chief Minister to secure this commitment. The group included president Tach Tadar, general secretary John Tara Bakey, and chief advisor Toko Teki alongside committee members.

Khandu promised help with logistics and any issues that crop up during the tournament. He also agreed to show up as chief guest for the closing ceremony. The state association noted, "Khandu assured the delegation that the state government would extend full support and cooperation for the successful organisation of the championship."

The event acts as a proving ground for the 39th National Games in 2027. Arunachal Pradesh co-hosts those games with Meghalaya. Officials will watch the Wushu matches to scout talent and build a competitive team. The association expects the tournament to sharpen their focus for the upcoming national competition.
