Guwahati: Police in Barpeta district tracked down counterfeit currency worth Rs 1.64 lakh during an operation in the Mandia area. Officers detained one man, Kalim Uddin, for his suspected role in spreading the fake notes. Investigators are now grilling Uddin to find the source of the cash and track any accomplices. Police suspect he is part of a larger racket, but they have yet to release details on note denominations or the specific distribution network.
Separately, Cachar district police intercepted a massive haul of urea fertiliser in Dholai on Monday, September 21. Officers pulled over a vehicle, registration number AS-11-RC-1603, near the Dholai police station gate around 5:30 pm. A search revealed 300 sacks of fertiliser stashed inside the truck. Police detained the driver, 24-year-old Sarim Uddin Laskar of Rajnagar, who is the son of Abdul Karim Laskar.
Authorities impounded both the vehicle and the fertiliser consignment to check for valid transit papers. Dholai police are digging into where the load came from and who planned to receive it. Officials stated, "Further legal action will be initiated based on the findings of the investigation." Investigators are currently verifying all transport records to determine if the movement violated state regulations.
