Guwahati: Police in Assam's Cachar district recovered the body of 42-year-old Tapati Sharma from a drain at Punikhal on Tuesday. The site sits near the East Devipur cremation ground in the Dholai Assembly constituency. She was missing since last Thursday. The victim lived in the East Gazalghat area and was the wife of priest Rabindra Chakraborty.

Family members and neighbors scoured the area for days without success. A passerby finally spotted the body in the drain, drawing a massive crowd to the location. Officers from Dholai Police Station responded to the scene and retrieved the remains.

Officials sent the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. Investigations are ongoing. The case remains a mystery. Authorities have yet to establish how Sharma ended up in the drain, noting, "The circumstances leading to Sharma's death remain unclear."
