Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma officially welcomed 100 Naval NCC cadets to Pandu Port in Guwahati on November 6. The group completed a 248-kilometre sailing mission down the Brahmaputra. The journey finished with a flag-in ceremony. It marked the end of a ten-day trek that started at Biswanath Ghat on October 28.
The expedition operated under the NCC Directorate, North Eastern Region, Shillong. Organizers named the event the Most Enterprising Naval Unit, or MENU 2026. Cadets from the 48 and 49 Assam Naval Units tackled the route. They navigated through Biswanath, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Darrang, Morigaon, and Kamrup Metropolitan districts. The mission aimed to instill discipline and patriotism in the youth. Participants honored the memory of legendary Ahom general Bir Lachit Borphukan throughout the trip.
Cadets spent months mastering seamanship, river safety, and rescue techniques before hitting the water. They filled their stops with community work. Teams led cleanliness drives and anti-drug campaigns. They performed street plays focused on Borphukan. The event relied on help from the Assam government, the National Disaster Response Force, and Inland Water Transport authorities. Reflecting on the initiative, organizers stated the event was "organised as part of the Most Enterprising Naval Unit (MENU 2026) initiative to promote adventure, teamwork, discipline, leadership and patriotism among the youth."
