Bodoland Territorial Council Cuts Land Fees as Mohilary Rejects New Agitation

Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council slashed land premium rates on Friday. The move covers both landless citizens and current owners needing mutation or patta allotment. Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary announced the decision after a council meeting in Kokrajhar on November 6.

Mohilary also drew a hard line on the political front. He ruled out full support for a fresh movement pushing for a separate Bodoland. He worries about the fallout. Another round of protests could wreck the future of the younger generation and reignite old rivalries between Bodo and non-Bodo residents.

The BPF chief insisted his stance is not a total rejection of the statehood demand. Instead, he maintains the current climate is just not right for more unrest. Regarding the party position, Mohilary told reporters, "The BPF was neither rejecting the demand nor abandoning it, but believed that the prevailing circumstances were not conducive to another agitation."
