Assam Minister Pledges Infrastructure Boost for Bodoland

Guwahati: Assam Finance and Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah committed to state-wide investment in the Bodoland Territorial Council on October 5. He spoke at the first anniversary of the local government at the BTC Secretariat playground in Kokrajhar. Progress here drives the whole state. The government plans to spend Rs 1.5 lakh crore on infrastructure over the next five years under the Developed Assam vision, with a large share reserved for this council area.

Baruah highlighted a new heliport in Kokrajhar as a key asset. It will link the town to Guwahati, Rupsi, and Bagdogra, sparking tourism and trade. He also noted that the upcoming Mindfulness City in Gelephu, Bhutan, will help the region. Industrialists plan to meet there on October 25. Plans for a railway connection between Kokrajhar and Gelephu remain a top priority to improve movement.

The minister credited the current peace for new opportunities. He urged collective cooperation to keep the momentum going. "The development of BTC means strengthening the development of Assam," Baruah said. He also praised local leaders for pushing programs to make the youth self-reliant.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary marked the morning by honoring Bodo movement leader Upendra Nath Brahma at Thulungapuri in Dotma. He also visited the Shaheed Sujit Narzary Memorial Centre and the Brahma statue near the BTC Legislative Assembly. The event featured cultural performances beginning at 10 am. Officials closed the day by handing out land pattas, financial aid, and achievement awards to local residents.
