Guwahati: BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary dropped a Rs 158,831.32 lakh budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year on Tuesday. He leads the BTC Finance Department and tabled the plan during the two-day session of the Legislative Council held July 29 and 30. It is a massive financial roadmap. The plan targets education, infrastructure, and public welfare.
The council set aside Rs 90,000 lakh under the Consolidated State-Owned Priority Development Grant. They allocated another Rs 20,000 lakh for building infrastructure and carrying out the Bodoland Territorial Region Accord. Another Rs 20,000 lakh serves as special assistance for centrally sponsored schemes. Infrastructure grants account for Rs 9,757.25 lakh, while administrative costs hit Rs 2,530.22 lakh.
Mohilary also proposed Rs 2,794.44 lakh in special grants. He tucked away Rs 1,000 lakh for martyr ex gratia and another Rs 1,000 lakh to build a BTC Guest House in Chennai. The Normal Budget paints a tighter picture. Revenue receipts sit at Rs 9,131.42 lakh against expenditures of Rs 16,285.94 lakh. This leaves an anticipated fiscal deficit of Rs 7,154.47 lakh.
BTC Executive Member Derhasat Basumatary spoke to reporters after the session. He noted, "The financial plan prioritises public welfare and long-term development, with particular attention to improving the education sector alongside balanced growth across the Bodoland Territorial Region." Education Executive Member Rabiram Narzary also announced the rebranding of the Bodofa Super-50 Mission. It is now the UN Brahma Free UPSC, APSC, NEET and JEE Coaching Programme. Narzary confirmed the program will expand its intake beyond the current 50-student limit.
