Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hit the streets of Shimla on November 1 to hammer the Congress party. He led a BJP march dubbed Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao alongside party stalwarts Rajiv Bindal, Anurag Thakur, and Suresh Kashyap. The event functioned as a direct counter-attack against an Opposition mega rally held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan.
Sarma didn't hold back. He accused Rahul Gandhi of trying to protect infiltrators by fighting against the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He claimed this scrutiny is vital to purge voter lists of illegals, much like in Assam and West Bengal. He leveled a harsh insult at the Congress leader, stating, "He is crazy; he belongs in a mental asylum."
The Chief Minister contrasted recruitment records while campaigning. He targeted Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for failing to deliver on a pledge of five lakh state jobs. He touted the BJP record in Assam, claiming the party promised one lakh government jobs but delivered 1.6 lakh instead. The BJP is playing to win. He declared, "The BJP steals hearts, not votes."
Sarma also tore into the INDIA bloc for scheduling a Delhi rally on the anniversary of the 1984 anti-Sikh violence. He blasted the timing as deeply insensitive. He demanded an apology from opposition leaders for the slaughter of over 3,000 Sikhs. He demanded they observe two minutes of silence for the victims before continuing their political work.
The political heat is rising. BJP leader Nitin Nabin held a similar march in Rohtak, while the party and its Mahayuti allies hit the streets in Mumbai. Sarma mocked the opposition for crying foul over election procedures only when the BJP holds power. He challenged them to look in the mirror before questioning the electoral process.
