Dhubri Girls College Principal Faces Financial Misconduct Allegations

Guwahati: Multufa Begum, the former acting principal of Dhubri Girls College, is facing serious claims of financial misconduct. A contractor accuses her of withholding 6 lakh rupees in payments for infrastructure projects. The dispute stems from building work completed at the campus.

The Public Works Department Goalpara Building Circle initiated the project through a tender process. They tasked the contractor, Firduz Zaman Sarkar, with building a boundary wall, new classrooms, and bathroom facilities for the girls hostel. The college awarded a work order worth 16.50 lakh rupees on February 15, 2024.

Sarkar finished the job. He handed the completed projects over to Begum on September 19, 2024. College records show the institution paid 10.50 lakh rupees from its development fund between February 19 and May 2, 2024. The final 6 lakh remains unpaid. Sarkar said, "The prolonged delay in payment had caused him financial hardship and sought clearance of his outstanding dues."

Local residents now demand a full investigation into Begum’s tenure. They worry about mismanagement of college funds. Shimul Sarkar, a resident, wants authorities to verify if the college followed standard procedures. He insists they must ensure accountability if investigators find proof of financial irregularities.
